Under Georgia law, Uninsured motorist (UM or UIM) coverage is a type of coverage on your own car insurance policy that protects you in the event that the at fault driver does not have liability insurance – or if the driver is unknown. It makes sense because you don’t know who the at-fault driver was, there is no way to know whether he or she has insurance, let alone who the insurance carrier is and what the policy limits are.
